So it’s been a weird week guys.
My best friend got married and left the country to move to New York City. You might have heard me mention it once. Or twice. (LOL).
Right after her wedding, I woke up the very next day with a fever and a splitting headache. I hadn’t been sick at the wedding last night, so I failed to understand how I had suddenly become sick. And so my return to school began with a cold that seemed on the verge of going away and then returned the next day with a vengeance.
I also returned to school feeling a little less than excited. The holidays had been filled with colour and excitement and a little bit of sadness too, and it was hard to come down from all those feelings (especially my little cryfest on both Sunday and Monday night as I hugged my friend goodbye) and return to the mundane routine of class and reading and homework.
I had been so on top of things in the holidays, right up to the wedding, but coming back to school has felt like an uphill battle this week. It might be because I returned sick, but I feel a total lack of motivation this semester. I was hoping that the holidays would relax me, but they seem to have done the opposite: made me anxious to finish the program and move on.
I was also supposed to return to dieting this week, since I haven’t exactly been keeping on track, (as the batch of cookie dough chilling in the fridge will attest). Again, not sure what it was about this week, but I just couldn’t do it. I’m hoping to start again- right after I polish off this batch of cookies! -_-
I had taken the weekend off from work for the wedding, and so it’s been 2 weeks since I’ve been at work. Even though all I do is shelve books, I find myself excited to go back for my shift tomorrow to get back into the hustle and bustle of things. The store has probably quieted down a lot since Christmas , but I’m excited nonetheless; there’s something about being around books all day that’s soothing.
Reading wise, I’m on a superhero kick this week! I just finished Steelheart by Robert Sanderson, a YA superhero novel about a boy who’s trying to take down an evil ‘superhero’ with his ordinary human strength. And now I’ve just begun Vicious by V.E Schwab, an adult novel about two friends turned rivals, like Magneeto and Professor X, after one of them gets super powers. I love Schwab’s writing and can’t wait to dive in deeper!
Anyway, that’s what my week has been like. Hope you guys have a good weekend!
Thanks for reading,
Ikhlas
Saying goodbye to friends is the worst! Just got to stay positive that you will see each other again soon. At least we have things like Skype and Facetime now! I can’t imagine waiting months to get a letter from someone like the Victorians had to! I’ve been wanting to read Vicious, so I’m curious to hear what you think of it….and how it compares to Steelheart!
Natalie recently posted…Ten Second Reviews!
Thanks, Natalie! And haha good point! Although I still enjoy writing letters 🙂
I’m really enjoying Vicious; it’s very different from Steelheart because it’s adult, and you can tell, but they’re both good!
