Little Surprises

Hi all!

I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day at all, other than giving my friends chocolates, etc. but today I just received the loveliest surprise!

I recently entered Hachette Book Group Canada‘s giveaway for the book The Way We Fall and just found out I won!

Its a YA dystopian novel, and sounds like its full of teen angst and blooming romance, which is the best kind. ^_^

I haven’t yet received the book, but am really excited to dive into it when I do.

All in all, it was a lovely surprise 🙂

Review: The Dark Divine

Review: The Sky is Everywhere

The Sky Is Everywhere Lennie Walker’s a junior and she’s used to doing everything with her older, and much cooler sister. But that all changes when she dies suddenly, leaving Lennie to learn to live without her.

Bailey isn’t the only person that Lennie has ever lost. She doesn’t know who her father is, since her mother abandoned her and Bailey when they were little, leaving them in the care of their Gram.

Filled with heart-breaking poems that Lennie writes everywhere, The Sky is Everywhere explores the journey that Lennie goes on to try and figure out who she is, as she struggles between loving Toby, her sister’s fiancé, who is just as broken hearted as she, or Joe, the new kid in town who helps her feel alive again.

My heart
it beats.

It beats a rhythmic drum,
as it crawls up my chest
and suffocates my throat.

I am drowning in thoughts,
plunging headfirst into longings
and desires and questions.

I am floating in waves of anxiety,
which beat against the walls of my stomach,
crying out hallow cries to my heart,
who ignores them.

Who am I? I demand them all.

The most logical,
the brain,
sputters and mumbles half-formed
answers
that fizzle and die on the way to the heart.

I am a bird with one wing, neither creature of sky
or earth.
A distant and too-small spot on the canvas
of the universe.

Broken houses with empty walls,
locks without keys.

Half-asked questions with silent answers;
I am waiting and wondering.

Not who,
but what?
