Review: The Future of Us

The Future of UsIn 1996 Josh and Emma are in high school. They used to be best friends, but everything changed between them when Josh tried to kiss Emma.

Now he tries to fix things by bringing over an AOL CD, which has 100 free hours of internet on it, something that Emma needs after her dad sent her his old computer. When she logs on, she stumbles onto a website she’s never heard of it: Facebook.

Suddenly she can see everyone’s future, told through status updates, relationship updates, posts, friends, etc. Josh can’t understand how or why they can access this future website, but they both begin to try to change things in the present, so that they change the future that they see on Facebook. They become so invested in the future, so that they stop living in the present. Continue reading →

New Adult Book by JK Rowling

Hi guys!

Just learnt some exciting news, and wanted to post about it here, in case you haven’t heard it…

Its just been announced that JK Rowling has written a new book for adults, which is going to be published by Little, Brown!!!! To say I’m excited is a severe understatement. 🙂 I can’t wait!

There isn’t really much information about the book other than the fact that a) it is new (duh) and b) its for adults.

Funnily enough, there’s a generic image they keep using in the announcement of this book, so I might as well share it here:

Are you excited yet? ^_^

Here’s a quote from the woman of the hour herself”

“Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world. The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”

I’ve been a Harry Potter/JK Rowling fan since the tender age of ten and have grown up with Harry and his friends, like many other people my age. Its hard to say whether this new book will have the same magic as Harry, especially since we don’t have any plot description or details whatsoever, but if its by JK Rowling, the world will be waiting and watching.

What do you think the new book will be about?

Review: Unwind

Unwind (Unwind, #1)In a not too distant future, the pro-life and pro-choice camps fight each other in the Heartland War. Both sides win, but in an unorthodox way. Parents can’t abort children at conception; instead they have the option to ‘unwind’ children from the age of thirteen to eighteen. All parts of an unwound teenager are reused for other human beings, thus continuing the sanctity of life.

Connor is a big pain to his parents. He doesn’t do well in school and gets into fights. He is being unwound.

Risa is ward of the state. Parentless and hopeless, Rissa can’t achieve anything greater than what she has already achieved at the orphanage. She is being unwound.

Lev is a tithe. He has grown up in a warm and loving family knowing his future. He believes it is God’s plan. He is being unwound.

These three characters meet while on the run from the authorities, and discover that if they can all make it to eighteen, then they can survive. But what they don’t plan on is the relationships they all develop with each other, leaving them with questions of the price of human life and dignity.
